Muiravonside Country Park, Falkirk

The sunshine beckoned last week and so off we went to visit Muiravonside Country Park near Linlithgow. It's a small park but it has some very interesting attractions: there's a sculpture and poetry trail and the fantastic Newlands Farm that has Highland Cattle, Clydesdale Horses, Hebridean Sheep, Wessex and Gloucester Old Spot Pigs and goats, as well as various small animals and birds. The whole park is dog friendly and dogs are permitted on lead around the animal exhibits too! It's great that this animal attraction still seems to be a going concern given that Beecraigs Country Park are closing theirs. To be honest, Newlands Farm is much better anyway.

There's plenty of additional walking accessible from the park with the long distance John Muir Way and the River Avon Heritage Trail both nearby. The impressive Avon Aqueduct is within easy reach also, though I avoided taking the dogs with me up there as it's a lot of steps and Jasper would have to be on lead or he'd be straight in the Union Canal!

The main car park for the site costs just £1 and the park itself is free. You can also park for free in the woodland car park, though donations are gratefully received. This looks like it may change in the future however, as there are plans to revamp the site and increase the parking charges.

You can find a location map at the end of the article. All images can be clicked / tapped to enlarge. Information is current as of our last visit in May 2023. More information about the park can be found on the Feel Falkirk council website here.
