We recently took another trip to the lovely Beecraigs Country Park, near Linlithgow, this time walking the other main waymarked route: the circular orange trail. It's a fairly easy walk of approximately 4 miles, on good paths with some light uphill sections. Take care where the route occasionally follows the minor roads. We kept the dogs on lead around the loch to avoid the water due to the potential risk of blue green algae and the fact that the water when we visited had that colour tinge to it.
The trail passes through the Beecraigs Animal Attraction where you can see Belted Galloways, Highland Cattle, Red Deer and Hebridean and North Ronaldsay Sheep. There is also a viewing shed where lambs can currently be viewed. Sadly the attraction is due to close due to the council no longer being able to afford to fund it.
The route continues on to the highlight of the walk, the pretty Beecraigs Loch, one of those lochs that beautifully reflects the surrounding trees in the water. Along the walk there are also some great panoramic views of the landscape to be had. As usual, we stopped off at the visitor centre café for a take away cake and coffee to enjoy on the picnic benches outside (the visitor centre and café themselves are not dog friendly).
Information is current as of our last visit in April 2023. All photos can be clicked / tapped to enlarge.
