Back in October last year I wrote an article about
The Braan Path from The Hermitage. Here's the other main route through there, The Inver Walk. It's a lovely and extremely varied circular walk that starts from The Hermitage car park, covering a distance of approximately 7 miles. The walk is straightforward to follow and well way-marked / signposted.
The route runs through part of the Hermitage, where you can take a short detour to view Black Linn Falls and the viewing platform at Ossian's Hall (on the Braan Path), which is well worth it especially after heavy rain. At the time of writing, Ossian's Hall is closed for repairs but you can still get a good view of the falls from the bridge just before the hall. Take care along the river as it's fast flowing and dangerous.
The Inver Walk then leaves the Hermitage through the forest and up to a detour for Pine Cone Point. The detour is approximately a mile each way and is something of a climb. It's worth it though for the great view over Strath Tay from the lookout folly at the top. Our route continues to a short detour for Torryvald Folly. The folly was originally Victorian but has since been rebuilt. There's not much of a view from the top now as there are too many trees. It still makes for an interesting diversion however.
The walk then continues to where we pass underneath the main Highland railway line and the A9 main road. The return leg follows the River Tay to Dunkeld, crosses back under the A9, returning to The Hermitage car park along part of the River Braan, via the village of Inver and a short section along the A9. Take particular care along the roads and where the railway and A9 are close to the path. Dogs should be on lead through these sections.
